Why get your torque tools calibrated?

Let's face it, most torque tools get a lot of abuse in service. Yet most people expect them give reliable, accurate performance day after day, month after month.

Lambda operate an Accredited UKAS Torque Calibration Laboratory which for many years has offered calibration of torque wrenches and torque screwdrivers to the internationally recognised standard ISO 6789 up to 1,500Nm.

ISO 6789:2003 or ISO 6789:2017

Although ISO 6789:2003 is now classified as "withdrawn" we are currently still accredited by UKAS to calibrate your torque wrench or screwdriver to this standard.

We are also accredited by UKAS to calibrate torque wrenches and screwdrivers to the newer ISO 6789:2017 standard.

How is ISO 6789:2017 different?

Calibration of torque tools to either the old standard or the new standard involves the same type of comparative analysis of the tool's performance against a reference transducer. Where calibration to the new standard differs is in the huge amount of addition work which is required. This work is primarily aimed at identifying additional contributions to the calibration uncertainty. Contributions such as how well the torque wrench or screwdriver is able to reproduce the same results after resetting several times; the effects of varying the loading position or orientation of the output drive.

Calibration Prices

The additional work involved in calibration of a torque tool to ISO 6789:2017 does mean there will be a considerable increase in the price for that calibration.

Basically though, for as long as calibration to ISO 6789:2003 (old standard) remains technically valid, and approved by UKAS, we can calibrate your torque wrench or screwdriver to this standard as we have done for the past few years, if this is what you require.

Calibration to ISO 6789:2017 (newer standard), will be more expensive.

Please specify which standard you require when sending torque tools in for calibration.
